Phil Heckler honored by TOB
On Tuesday, August 13th 2024 at the town board meeting, HGCA Executive Board member Phil Heckler was honored by the Town of Oyster Bay board for his many years of service, including as President of the Hicksville Board of Education.
Phil’s service to the community continues as he’s recently joined the HGCA board, and has been working as chair of the Youth Outreach Committee to establish tighter bonds between our organization and the younger generation within our community. He’s been cooking up some programs over the summer, which we’ll hear more about at our next General Meeting.

Annual Food and Toy Drives
Thanks to the wondrous generosity of our members, the civic was able to provide Thanksgiving meals and gift cards to three families in the community to help them refill their pantry this season.
In addition, we were able to provide toys for 16 children across 7 families to ensure smiles this holiday season for those who are less fortunate.
We extend our thanks our members, to the family of John Simonello, and to the Plaza Marine group for helping us support these Hicksville families.
Thank you to Lee Ave school for their ongoing partnership in identifying the families and helping distribute the gifts.
Many thanks to our Community Service committee, chaired by Chris and Nick Mirro, for their tireless labor in shopping for all the goods and packaging, and to Irene Guarasci for the extra set of hands in wrapping the record setting number of presents provided by the civic.
We wish everyone a very happy and safe Holiday season!
Utility Bill Assistance
NYS has notified us of programs available to help anyone struggling with their utility bills. Please see details below and pass on to anyone in need.
Food Drive
The holiday season is a time to support the families in our community who are less fortunate. Through Lee Avenue School, the HGCA was able to provide a Thanksgiving dinner and much more to three families. A generous gift card was presented to each family to help them fill their pantries and table with food for the holiday season
A special thank you to all our members who sent in donations.

MEET THE CANDIDATES
This year, with the large number of Nassau County and Town of Oyster Bay positions up for election, we will partner with the NorthWest Civic and Hicksville Community Council to host a series of Town Hall meetings to offer an opportunity for all candidates to express their views and answer questions from the Hicksville community. Invitations were sent to candidates from both the Republican and Democratic parties for all positions up for election. Not all candidates may be able to attend, due to prior commitments.
The Hicksville Gardens Civic Association DOES NOT endorse any candidate. As a local civic association, we present candidates with a forum to share their ideas and to answer questions. The statements made by the candidates at these forums are the candidates’ own and are not an endorsement by the Hicksville Gardens Civic Association. |
ALL meetings will be held at the Hicksville Community Center, 28 Carl St., and start at 7pm.
We urge everyone to attend as many of these meetings as possible.

Voting is a privilege that comes with a responsibility to be familiar with the candidates’ positions on issues that affect us all. Information on the candidates is readily available on the internet, and we encourage everyone to seek out this information to be an informed electorate. Hicksville is the most populous hamlet in the Town of Oyster Bay, as well as one of the most populous in Nassau County. With development projects underway and planned for our community and nearby, it is important to show the candidates that we care what is going on in this place we all call home.
